RAYMOUR AND FLIMFLAMIGAN?

Ken Berwitz

How do they do this stuff?  Doesn\’t anyone think over there?

I just saw a commercial for Raymour and Flanigan furniture\’s 62nd anniversary sale.

In the middle of this commercial, the voiceover says “We\’re putting every single item in the store on sale now!”

Let\’s stop there.  Does that communicate to you that every single item in the store is on sale now?  I would hope so.

Then, on the screen, in big letters, are the words “Everything On Sale!”

Let\’s stop again.  Does that reinforce the idea that every single item in the store is on sale?  I thought so.

But wait.

Now, below Everything On Sale!, in much smaller letters, there are these words:

some exclusions apply

SAY WHAT????????????

How, if every single item in the store is on sale now, and it says Everything On Sale!, can some exclusions apply?

That\’s even worse than the Sleepy\’s commercials which claim, with complete absurdity, that they are “the only mattress professionals”.

I wonder who is at fault for such idiocy?  The ad agency?  Raymour?  Flanigan?

It\’s gotta be someone….

Anyway, based on this commercial, I think I\’ll skip their 62nd anniversary sale.

And, believe me, no exclusions apply.
