Amazing, isn\’t it? Another day of outrage over the killing of Cecil The Lion….by a hunter who traveled to Zimbabwe and paid $55,000 for all the legal documentation to hunt and kill one.
If his guides had led him to any other lion, what would have happened? A lion would be just as dead as Cecil, and no one would have heard a thing about it.
So what do we know?
We know that Cecil\’s killer, Minnesota doctor Walter Palmer, likes to shoot animals which have no defense against human weaponry and technology, as if that makes him some kind of great game hunter. We know, therefore, that he is a world class jerk.
We know that what Dr. Palmer did was perfectly legal and 100% sanctioned by the Zimbabwe government; the same government that is crying a river to the world over Cecil\’s death – which, apparently, was caused not by Palmer himself, but by Palmer\’s guides pointing him to the wrong lion.
We know that Dr. Palmer\’s life as he knew it is over. His home has been vandalized, his office is closed, and he will forever be remembered as the killer of a “beloved icon” (one that I would bet money you never heard of in your life until this happened).
But what about Zimbabwe?
We also know that, so far, it is home free.
Where is the outrage over this country selling the right to kill these animals…which is the only reason Dr. Palmer was there in the first place?
Have you seen any reports on this by the networks?
Why have they done nothing but go after the guy who played by Zimbabwe\’s own rules?
This is how mainstream media cover the story? This is what passes for journalism today?
Sadly, the answer to both questions is yes.
