Over the past few days, several commentators have – maybe jokingly, maybe not – wondered in print about whether Donald Trump is a Democrat mole.
Their reason is that Trump is a) drawing the preponderance of media coverage just about every day, b) causing less coverage of other Republican candidates, c) tcausing less coverage of the Hillary Clinton scandals – which, presumably, is just fine with Ms. Clinton and her people, and d) attacking Republicans far more than Clinton or other Democrats.
It seems pretty clear that a), b) and c) are true, doesn\’t it? Trump draws media attention like a fresh cow pile draws flies. And the more there is of Trump, the less there is of other candidates.
But what about d)? Does Trump really attack Republicans more than Hillary Clinton or other Democrats?
Well, the Washington Examiner decided to check and see. Here, excerpted from today\’s article by Gabby Morrongiello, is what it found:
Donald Trump has criticized or mocked conservative candidates, politicians, and pundits nearly five times as often as liberal-leaning folks on his personal Twitter account.
A Washington Examiner analysis of the individuals Trump has mentioned on his Twitter feed — excluding mentions included in retweets or quoted tweets — found that the Republican presidential hopeful strongly prefers to launch attacks against members of his own party on social media.
Since (initially attacking Karl Rove), Trump has tweeted a total of 46 negative remarks about Rove and other GOP presidential candidates, politicians, and pundits in comparison to the 10 times he\’s gone after Democratic candidates, politicians and pundits during that same time frame.
Hmmmm: 47 attacks on Republicans versus 10 on Democrats. And usually in the most abrasive, obnoxious way he can come up with.
Does that come across as what a Republican would do, or what a Democrat would do…
…or, considering that it is Donald Trump, what an insatiable publicity hound would do?
Y\’know, maybe those folks who wonder which side Trump is really on, have a point.
Or maybe the real deal is that it doesn\’t matter which side Trump attacks as long as the media spotlight continues to be on him over all the others – which is where I come down on this issue.
Your call.
