Now here\’s a billboard guaranteed to infuriate at least some of the “Black Lives Matter\’ crowd – you know, the ones who restrict their concern about Black lives to the ones that can be mined for racial purposes.
Is this a reasonable sentiment? That, of course, is arguable.
Is it a racist\’s “gotcha” against Black people? That, by contrast is not arguable at all. Fred L. Davis is a long-time civil rights activist who, as a young man, marched with Martin Luther King, and subsequently became the first Black member of the Memphis City Council.
Another unarguable point is that, on an average day, 17 Black people are murdered in the United States, and 16 of them are murdered by other Blacks…which certainly does give us perspective regarding what Mr. Davis is getting at.
I\’ve said it many times in here since the “Black Lives Matter” movement started: this slogan makes sense only if all Black lives matter. If the only Black lives which matter to you are the ones that can be exploited for political purposes, then Black lives don\’t matter to you at all.
