In 2006, Rasmussen Research asked respondents whether a valid ID should be required of all voters. At that time, 78% said it should.
On May 27th and 28th, Rasmussen Research asked the same question. And after years and years of people being bombarded with claims that forcing people to show a valid ID is racist, unfairly suppress the vote and, in any event, there is no voter fraud anyway, the result was that 76% favored a Voter ID requirement – virtually the same as in 2006.
And while Republicans are much more insistent on Voter ID than Democrats, a strong majority of Democrats (58%) favor them too.
I still have yet to hear any valid explanation of why asking all people to produce a valid identification is racist. Or any reason that the people calling it racist never rail against the ID requirement for countless other activities in our day to day lives.
Have you ever heard any of the “voter IDs are racist” people arguing against the same kind of ID being required to cash a check? Get a library card? Board a plane? Buy liquor? See an R or X rated movie? Etc. etc. etc. How come it is only racist when people are voting?
I wonder if any of the people making this argument think about the fact that to claim voter IDs suppress the minority vote is to claim, in so many words, that minorities are less capable of getting and showing a valid ID than White people. Now THAT\’S racist.
Yet despite everything you just read, be assured that there will be a fight against voter ID requirements next year, just as there was in 2014, 2012. 2010, etc.
Personally, the only reason I can see for arguing against the ID requirement is to make it easier for illegals to vote and/or for legal voters to vote more than one time.
How about you?
