Politicide is the act of self-destructing politically.
And Democrats seem determined to become even more successful at it than they’ve already been for the past year.
Did they happen to notice that, from the start of the impeachment inquiry to the inevitable senate acquittal, President Trump’s approval ratings went up, not down?
Maybe not. Or maybe they just don’t think the two are connected. You have to wonder, since a good many major Democrat players seem eager to do it again.
Please read the first paragraphs from Olivia Beavers’ article at thehill.com, and see for yourself:
House Democrats say even though President Trump was acquitted in the Senate, that doesn’t mean they are going to ease off their investigations into his administration.
Democrats are weighing whether to pursue new leads of possible wrongdoing or press forward with probes that were already underway when an anonymous whistleblower’s allegations last year sparked the impeachment inquiry.
But no matter which route they take, Democrats are confident there is more wrongdoing to be uncovered — it’s just a matter of when and how grave.
“Donald Trump, I still believe, is a one-man crime wave, and we can’t let him get away with all of his other offenses against the Constitution and the people,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), a member of the House Judiciary Committee.
You’ve got the link above, and can read the rest if you care to. But I’m pretty sure you’ll know what’s there. The same yada yada yada from the same Democrats about the same bogeymen.
The most fascinating part? How many Democrats seem to think this will somehow be beneficial to them.
Do they think the party’s eventual presidential nominee is going to use impeachment as a campaign issue? If so, that should be quite a show. Because Donald Trump is not only unfazed by the impeachment effort, there seems little doubt he is going to use it as a campaign issue.
Trump is going to point out that while he has overseen record-low unemployment, a record-high stock market, the fastest wage rise for lower income people in 20 years and deals with Mexico, Canada and China that have the potential to accelerate these economic triumphs, Democrats have done little other than try to remove him from office. And now that they’ve failed, instead of joining him to make the country better/more prosperous, all they’re interested in doing is trying to remove him again.
Will such a message resonate with voters? Will round II of the GetridofTrump-a-thon be more important to them than a surging economy?
Evidently, at least some Democrats think the answer is yes…
…which, I would think, explains the title of this blog.
