THE JOE BIDEN PRESIDENTIAL RECESSION

Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, along with his prospects for success in that campaign, have gone into recession.

They are receding.  Dwindling.  Diminishing.  Just like they did the several other times he ran for President.  And, as with those other times, they seem destined for an unsuccessful conclusion.

Sam Stein, writing for thedailybeast.com, has written an excellent article about this, titled “Joe Biden Is Running Out Of Gas”, which captures the current Biden situation very well.  A key paragraph:

Biden’s campaign is running on fumes. A candidate with all the trappings of a traditional frontrunner—the long résumé, party backing, relevant experience, and steady poll numbers—suddenly is on electoral life support. A fourth-place showing in the Iowa Caucus days ago has raised the stakes for the upcoming primary. But even Biden himself seems to be grappling with the likelihood that another humiliation is on the horizon. His first answer during Friday night’s debate was devoted, in part, to explaining how he was likely to lose on Tuesday.

Mr. Stein is correct.  Joe Biden’s campaign is on the ropes, he knows it, and instead of battling his way out of its malaise he seems to think explaining it away will turn things around.

It won’t.

Further on in Stein’s piece, which describes an event in New Hampshire, he tells us that, after showing up late and demonstrating lethargy rather than leadership, Biden eventually went on the attack.

But you don’t win battles when your first move is to, essentially declare defeat.  And Biden has essentially declared defeat.

Where that leaves the others….and one recent presidential candidate who might see it as a major opening for her second try – is anyone’s guess.
