MEXICAN AVOCADOS VS. A CLOSED BORDER: MY VINNY GAMBINI IMPRESSION

According to what’s left of Newsweek, if President Trump follows through on his threat to close the Mexican border (at least until Mexico stops allowing illegals to use it as a route to the United States), avocado prices could triple.  The key excerpt:

“Avocado prices could easily double or triple if we shut down the border,” Roland Fumasi, vice president and senior analyst at Rabobank, told Bloomberg, adding that the current price surge is down to importers stockpiling the fruit following Trump’s comments.

This is supposed to be a meaningful news story?  I guess, for the remnants of Newsweek, it probably qualifies.

OK, now for my Vinny Gambini impression:

“This is a tough decision here. Pay more for avocados because the border closed, or have millions of illegals streaming into the country.  Let me think… I could use less expensive avocados, I’ll be very honest with you… nah, I think I’ll just go with the closed border.”

Call me a cockeyed optimist but, on this one, I think most people would agree with Mr. Gambini and me.
