Did you know that amendments to the constitution don’t count?
Well, maybe you don’t. Actually I hope you don’t, because that, of course is ridiculous.
But not everyone seems aware of this fact.
Here is an actual tweet, put up today, by Bess Kalb, who writes material for the former comedian/now social commentator Jimmy Kimmel:
Real quick seems worth clarifying the Second Amendment isn’t in the Constitution. It’s an amendment to the Constitution.
Uhhhhh…..no. But wait. This gets worse.
A man named Jon Bender immediately tweeted back, informing Ms. Kalb:
Well, it’s incorporated into the Constitution, right? The amended version.
You would think her response would either be “Whoops, sorry, got that wrong” or “Are you sure? I’ll double check”
But, as the title of this blog says, stupid is as stupid does. So Here’s what Ms. Kalb actually tweeted in response:

“-ing me”? Since Bell made a point of citing Bender’s gender (sorry, couldn’t resist that), I am hoping she meant “mansplaining”.
It’s true that this would compound the mistake she initially made and turn it into stupidity, on the grounds that instead of thinking about it she attacked the fact that (gasp!) a man corrected her. But every other alternative seems so much worse….
I wonder if this constitutional scholar has a major hand in writing his social-commentary monologues – the ones which are substituting for comedic material. If so, it explains a lot about where the show is going.
