Today’s quote comes to us from Joe Manchin, the former Democrat – then – independent U.S. Senator from West Virginia.
On Sunday, Manchin was on CBS’s “Face The Nation”, hosted by Margaret Brennan. And the talk turned to the socialists who are winning Democrat primary after Democrat primary.
After Manchin made it clear he could not support a self-described socialist candidate, Brennan asked “even if they have some good ideas?”.
Manchin’s answer:
“I support the good ideas. But how could you support some of the crazy stuff they’re for? Have you seen their platform? They’re for dismantling everything that we know, whether it be, whether it be the structure of government, Congress itself, or the Senate they want to get rid of, and then they start talking about all the crazy things, no police, no this, no this, no that. Are you crazy?”
“Are you crazy?” It doesn’t get more direct than that.
In this connection I would remind you – and Margaret Brennan – that hitler did some very good things for the German economy and mussolini made the trains run on time. This, of course did not change the fact that they were murdering subhumans who richly deserved the fate that ultimately befell them; it just proves the old adage that even a broken clock is right twice a day.
I award Joe Manchin Quote Of The Day honors for not only taking down socialism in so few words, but for asking a question of Margaret Brennan that, though pretty impolitic, was exactly the response she deserved.
