Today\’s quote comes to us from the always-entertaining Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN). It seems Rep. Ellison is not pleased with voting laws, and has decided to offer his wit and wisdom on this subject.
Here it is:
“NowI also think we need to make voting easier. It should be easier. Inother countries it\’s easier. Why should voting be so difficult? Tuesday? Who thought that up? I mean the fact is, is that there\’s awide variation in when people can vote. Uh, you can\’t necessarilyregister to vote on election day. I\’ve often asked myself why youshould have to register to vote.”
And if you don\’t – can\’t – believe that he actually said this (which certainly is understandable), here\’s the video to prove it:
A few insights for Mr. Ellison:
-It isn\’t hard to vote.
-It isn\’t hard to register.
-Tuesday is entirely incidental. It could have been any other day. And no matter which day was picked, the same “why that day?” question could have been asked just as easily.
-The fact that there is a wide variation in when people can vote is why there are absentee ballots and early voting periods. Apparently you are unaware of this, so I\’m pleased to be able to bring it to your attention.
-Why would it be necessary to register to vote? Hey, no reason at all. Just declare everyone a qualified voter and count \’em up. In fact, while we\’re at it, why not let people legally vote more than once? Actually, why hold the elections at all, why not just ask you who you think would have won. If Big Julie from Chicago can do it with dice, why not Big Keith from Minnesota with ballots?
I award Keith Ellison Quote Of The Day honors because – at least in my opinion – he has proved that anyone, regardless of intelligence or logic level, can become a member of congress.
It\’s not like he\’s the only one. But what you just read/saw puts him at the top of the list for now (until he is displaced by someone else which, given the quality of some of his counterparts, should not take long).
