WILL THE CUBAN GOVERNMENT FALL?

People are openly protesting in the streets.  And, unlike in Iran, the government is not shooting them dead….at least not yet.

Today, the energy grid failed and the entire country is, as I write this, without power.  Although this appears to be the first time the entire country has been affected, major power outages have taken place several times over recent months – in no small part because the equipment is way out of date and not maintained well.

And Cuba’s most important source of oil, Venezuela,  is no longer a provider.

Yikes.

I’ll bet you don’t even know who the “head of state” is (neither did I until I just checked).  The answer:  Miguel Díaz-Canel took over from Raúl Castro in October of 2023.

A non-existent economy, a beyond-repair power grid, no significant means of getting oil.  And, I have no doubt, full knowledge that Cubanos who made it to the United States are, comparatively speaking, living like kings and queens.

If that doesn’t add up to a possible end to Cuba’s communist hellhole, I don’t know what would.

For the people’s sake, I hope that it happens.  And the sooner the better.
