WHO IS IN MORE DANGER? POLICE, OR BLACK PEOPLE AT THE HANDS OF POLICE?

Here are a couple of facts most mainstream media, for some reason, have neglected to tell you about.

There are 45,003,665 self-identified Black people in the USA.  Over a 7 year period (from 2005 to 2012), an average of 96 Black people have been killed by White police officers each year.  That means the odds of a Black person being killed by a White Police Officer in a given year are 468,788 to 1.

According to the FBI\’s latest count (that I could find), for 2011, there are 698,460 police officers in the USA.  Last year, 46 of them were shot to death.  That means the odds of a police officer being shot and killed in the line of duty in a given year is 15,184 to 1.

Do the math and you will find that it is 31 times as likely for a police officer to be shot and killed in the line of duty as it is for a White cop to kill a Black citizen.  (And this, of course, is before we get to the fact that most people killed by police, regardless of their color, are criminals whose actions have necessitated that police draw their weapons.)

Now, tell me:  who is in more danger?

Oh, one other thing:  since these data are so easily accessible to me, and therefore just as easily accessible to everyone else, why is it that mainstream media don\’t bother putting them together for you?

Any reasons come to mind?
