Narcissistic Personality Disorder (Mayo Clinic Definition)
Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental health condition in which people have an unreasonably high sense of their own importance. They need and seek too much attention and want people to admire them. People with this disorder may lack the ability to understand or care about the feelings of others. But behind this mask of extreme confidence, they are not sure of their self-worth and are easily upset by the slightest criticism.
I’ve written about this before; Donald Trump’s beyond-the-pale narcissism.
But this latest example goes to a new level.
On August 27th, Trump used his Truth Social venue to put out his list of the greatest presidents of all time.
Guess who he put first. Not in a group of highest-tier presidents, but in a category of its own.
That’s right. Donald Trump.
George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Franklin Delano Roosevelt? They all take a back seat to Trump The Great.
But wait: he has just revised the list and put out a new set of rankings. Could it be that, however belatedly, some measure of sanity prevailed?
Uh….no. One thing that is not revised is Trump’s rating as #1; in a class by himself.
If there is some limit to the this man’s narcissistic self image I have yet to see it.
By doing things like this (and, as we know, it is far from the only example), he not only makes a complete fool of himself but diminishes just about anybody’s capacity to take him seriously.
That is as scary as hell. Let’s remember that Trump is commander in chief of our armed forces and holds the nuclear codes.
I acknowledge that there are things Trump has done in office that I support, and am very happy about (along with things I cringe over).
But I count the minutes until someone else – someone with views I share, of course – without the God complex Trump has – is in the Oval Office.
