Yesterday Thomas Jackson, Police Chief of Ferguson, Missouri, apologized for, among other things, the death of Michael Brown.
Why did he apologize before the investigation is completed and findings disclosed? Is an apology in order if it finds that Police Officer Darren Wilson acted correctly, and Michael Brown, a 6\’ 4″ 300 pound man whom we now know had just robbed a store and was under the influence of marijuana, threatened him sufficiently to fire his weapon?
It was not only a stupid apology, but one that opened the door wide for one or another of the race hustlers who jumped right into the Ferguson situation to use it for their own purposes.
And no one hustles race more overtly than al sharpton.
Yesterday, at a press conference, sharpton demanded investigations of the Brown case – and the Eric Garner case in Staten Island, where police took down Garner, a very large man who was resisting arrest, in part by pulling him from the neck. It turned out Garner had severe breathing problems, and he died of asphyxiation. (I\’ve seen the video of this take-down many times, and still cannot find any fatal chokehold in it.)
Here, in part, is what Sharpton\’s reaction to the apology, drawn from Maya Rhoden\’s article at time.com:
“Whetherthey wear blue jeans or blue uniforms, criminals must be heldaccountable”
“(The apology was) too little, too late.”
“Theanswer is justice for this family. Now to comewith an apology when the family is here asking for the JusticeDepartment to come in is suspect at best.”
Happy now, Chief Jackson?
You gave one of the most execrable race hustlers in the country (who also is a kingmaker in the Democrat Party, let\’s never forget) a free shot at calling one of your officers, Darren Wilson, a criminal, telling you off, and suggesting your apology was not sincere, but only made to save your own neck and your department.
Could you possibly have been ignorant enough to expect he would not have taken the shot?
If so, Ferguson needs a new police chief. And you need an intense course in remedial common sense.
