Was the ICE officer who shot and killed the woman – her name is Renee Nicole Good – who first blocked the road to impede ICE activities, and then accelerated forward with ICE agents near the car – trying to run one of them over?
I’ve seen a lot of footage from different angles. My initial thought has been to believe she was not trying to run anyone over, she was just trying to get away without being arrested. But I have just seen a video that is causing me to at least reconsider that thought.
Want to see it? Then click here. You will find a tweet from someone named Wayne R. Walker. At the bottom of the tweet there are four videos. All of them are worth watching, but pay special attention to “video 3” – in the bottom-left position.
This 20 second video first shows an agent trying to get Good out of the car to arrrest her for impeding ICE efforts. You will see her back up and then lurch forward. As that happens – about 5 seconds in – you will see the second agent, who is in front of the car and is the one who, as she starts to accelerate forward – toward him – shoots her.
Was the agent in danger? He certainly seemed to think so.
And, in that connection, it is being reported that this same agent (his name is Jonathan Ross), months ago, was dragged by a protester in a car and wound up in the hospital:.
His arm was pinned into the back window of a car as a suspect sped away, dragging him across the pavement for about 100 yards, according to court documents. The agent, who suffered injuries to his arm and hand, fired his Taser at the man during the encounter, records show.
It seems obvious that this would cause the agent to be fearful when another protest driver accelerated toward him which – I would think – has to count for something. It also should (is this too much to ask?) give protesters a reason to think twice before acting aggressively toward ICE agents in the future.
Anyway, there it is. Please look at the video and then make your own conclusions.
