THE UNITED KINGDOM TRADE DEAL

Unless Donald Trump is lying to our faces (and we’ll find out before the day is out), the first tariff-generated trade deal is made.

From President Trump’s Truth Social website yesterday:

“The agreement with the United Kingdom is a full and comprehensive one that will cement the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom for many years to come.  Because of our long time history and allegiance together, it is a great honor to have the United Kingdom as our FIRST announcement. Many other deals, which are in serious stages of negotiation, to follow!”

If President Trump is correct about this, and about other deals being in serious stages of negotiation (which we’ve been told for weeks) – including the Saturday meeting scheduled in Switzerland with China – it will obviously be a huge boost for the United States and its consumers.

And if even a small number of those other deals are made, it will create a near-sure scenario of just about every other country agreeing to more equitable trade deals as well.  Because, if they don’t, they will be non-competitive in the world’s largest market.  It really is that simple.

One other thing:  assuming this happens, I wonder how Democrats – the ones condemning Trump’s trade policy (along with everything else he does) – will deal with this.  How do they attack the tariff initiative if it is working; if it is therefore creating more equitable international trade for the country?  How do they contort such a success into a negative?

You can bet they’ll try.  And how in the world will they do it?  That, I can’t wait to hear.
