AN ANNIVERSARY OF THE END OF A WAR — WHICH SHOULD (BUT WON’T) BE DUPLICATED TODAY

With little if any media fanfare…

…today is the 80% anniversary of Germany’s unconditional surrender, effectively ending World War II in Europe (Japan held out until September 2, several weeks after we bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki).

The official announcement was made May 8 – which is VE (Victory in Europe) day – but the actual surrender was signed on May 7.

Moving to the present…

…the day that hamas unconditionally surrenders will end the war in Gaza.

The war – which hamas started on October 7, 2023, continues only because hamas, which could not care less about the human cost and property damage its continuation causes, will not surrender.

There aren’t many positive lessons to be learned from nazi Germany.  In fact, its unconditional surrender, belated though  it was, is the only one I can think of.

But, at least as of now, that’s one positive lesson more than we have learned from hamas.
