The following is excerpted from a statement made jointly by Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Democrat Rep. Ted Deutch, both of whom serve on the House Middle East Subcommittee:
“Ifit is determined that Hamas is behind this horrific tragedy, (Abbas)must immediately break up the unity agreement between Fatah andHamas, a U.S. designated foreign terrorist organization.
“Nowords can adequately express the sorrow and sadness we feel for thefamilies of Gilad, Naftali and Eyal, the people of Israel and theentire Jewish community worldwide. This is aday of tragedy and mourning; the world has lost three beloved sons, friends, and beautiful souls who were taken from us too early, butwill forever live on in our hearts and minds. We will continue tosupport the Government of Israel in its efforts to bring theperpetrators to justice, and we offer the people of Israel ourdeepest and most heartfelt condolences as we grieve with them.”
Well said, Ms. Ros-Lehtinen. Well said, Mr. Deutsch.
And here is an excerpt from President Obama\’s statement. The bold print is mine:
“TheUnited States condemns in the strongest possible terms this senselessact of terror against innocent youth. From the outset, I have offered our full support to Israel and thePalestinian Authority to find the perpetrators of this crime andbring them to justice, and I encourage Israel and the PalestinianAuthority to continue working together in that effort. I also urgeall parties to refrain from steps that could further destabilize thesituation. As the Israeli people deal with this tragedy, they havethe full support and friendship of the United States.”
Notice the difference?
A heads-up to President Obama. This is the same Palestinian Authority…:
-which names its sports events and plazas after the people who commit murderous acts of terrorism just like this one…
-.which welcomes terrorist murderers released by Israel in prisoner swaps with open arms, and
-has a “unity agreement” with hamas, the terrorist organization running Gaza, which is committed, in writing, to the obliteration of Israel and the death of all Jews everywhere – both in and out of Israel.
Speaking of hamas, are you aware of what it\’s leader, khaled mashaal, had to say about these three young boys? Here\’s your answer:
“No one claimed responsibilityso far. I can neither confirm [hamas\’s responsibility] nor deny it. Blessed be the hands thatcaptured them. This is a Palestinian duty, the responsibilityof the Palestinian people…”
Are you starting to get the picture now, Mr. President?
You make what could have been a sincere statement of grief over the murders of these three innocent teenagers. And then foul it with absurd blather about Israel and the Palestinian Authority (which is in bed with hamas), working together to find the perpetrators.
Here\’s the news Mr. President: if the PA found the perpetrators, it would HONOR them. How can you not know that? Or, worse, how can you know it but pretend otherwise?
And what, exactly, would you like Israel to refrain from? What reason would there be not to retaliate swiftly and harshly? Because you think it will convince abbas and his hamas partners to become interested in peaceful coexistence?
Can you possibly be that naive? Or hate Israel so much that you tell it to give murdering terrorists a free pass?
Nothing can bring back these three innocent young teenagers. But sincere, meaningful words might have provided some measure of solace, might have eased the pain ever so slightly.
So while I thank Ms. Ros-Lehtinen and Mr. Deutch for their statement…….I can only wish Mr. Obama had not turned his into a ridiculous, fraudulent political/diplomatic load of manure.
