Here is my first blog about the 25% tariffs imposed by President Trump on Canada and Mexico…and Canada and Mexico’s quick promise of retaliatory tariffs. It will be short and to the point – no major analysis – because I fully expect this situation will significantly change in a very short period of time.
The reason for Trump imposing the tariffs is that neither Canada nor Mexico have done a damn thing to close their borders/disallow illegals from entering the United States. Nor have they done a damn thing to prevent the illegal drugs streaming into our country along with these illegals – drugs that are killing our children.
All Trump is demanding is that they stop their borders from being used as gateways to the United States for the illegals and drug trafficking. That should not have to be demanded, that should be a policy of both countries as a matter of course. But in the Biden (or whoever ran the government) administration, it was AOK for four years.
The solution for Canada and Mexico is a simple one. Stop allowing illegals to use your country to migrate to the United States and take action against the fentanyl and other drugs that are coming along with them.
Put another way, if these two “friends” of ours actually start acting like friends, this situation ends. If they don’t, it doesn’t. Yes, it’s that simple.
