It wouldn\’t have been the worst meltdown I ever saw.
The worst I ever saw was, and would have remained, the Milwaukee Bucks (with Kareen Abdul-Jabbar at center) leading the New York Knicks 86-68 midway through the fourth quarter, and losing 87-86 as the Knicks ran off the last 19 points of the game.
But it would have been close.
Tonight the Brooklyn Nets were leading the Orlando Magic 95-69 – a 26 point advantage* – in the fourth quarter, and hung on to win 100-98, only because Orlando missed a couple of relatively open 3 point shots in the last half minute.
Well, in baseball they say that, on the scorecard, a cheap down-the-line home run counts the same as a shot into the center field bleachers. So I suppose the Nets\’ win counts the same as if had stayed a blowout. And I admit that it was fun to watch (though, as a Nets fan, I might not have felt the same way if one of those 3 pointers had been successful).
Ok, back to politics, where fouls and out-of-bounds plays far outdistance any successes on the court.

*In my end-of-night, semi-comatose state, I erroneously wrote this as 96-69 – a 27 point advantage. Not a huge mistake, but a mistake, so now it is corrected.
