Today’s quotes – and there are a number of them – come from people in what used to be…and now will again be…the law enforcement part of Los Angeles governance.
Here, pulled from Kevin Haggerty’s article at bizpacreview.com, is a partial list of what they have to say about the fact that Paul Gascón, LA’s radical-leftist District Attorney – who, not content with defunding/destroying the police force and leaving criminals to freely operate in the streets, also derided and punished the prosecutors under his control for trying to maintain at least some degree of law and order – has been decisively voted out of office by citizens who, finally, had enough:
-Deputy DA Tatiana Chahoian: “Gascón’s reign of terror over LA extended far beyond the prosecutors in his office. Not only did LA County residents kick him out, they simultaneously passed Prop 36, increasing penalties for certain crimes. They made their voices heard loud and clear — they’ve had enough. He’s permanently damaged careers, forced early retirements and ruined the morale and culture of the office. That’s going to take a long time to repair. Culture doesn’t change overnight.”
-Deputy DA Jason Lustig: “After four years of being test subjects in a perverted social experiment, LA County residents have clearly learned the hard way that their vote for district attorney matters more than any other decision on their ballots. I am confident that (incoming DA) Nathan Hochman will restore balance, fairness and organization to an institution that I and hundreds of my colleagues have dedicated our professional lives to.”
-Deputy DA Shea Sanna: “Crime is illegal again. We have a new DA that will focus on fighting crime instead of fighting his own prosecutors. Hochman’s focus will be protecting law-abiding citizens, not murderers and rapists.”
-Deputy DA Jonathan Hatami,: “It’s time for district attorneys to go back to the job they were elected to do — follow and enforce the laws, prosecute crime, support victims and do the right thing regardless of political affiliation. Gascón losing, really getting demolished, had absolutely nothing to do with politics. It had everything to do with the fact that he refused to actually do the job of the district attorney. For Angelenos, this wasn’t a national issue. It was a personal one. We all deserve public safety — especially from our DA. Gascón — your reign over LA is finally over. Please don’t ever run for public office again.”
I award all of these newly liberated law enforcement professionals Quote Of The Day honors for reasons that, I would think, are self-evident.
And Honorable Mentions to the voters of Los Angeles, who -though very belatedly and after enormous damage has been done – finally wised up and decided they wanted their city back….as did the voters in San Francisco who recalled their equally radical-left soul brother, DA Chesa Boudin, out of office last year.
Better late than never.
