THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today’s quote comes to us from Senator John McCain (R-AZ), who left a hospital bed – after being diagnosed with brain cancer – to speak on the senate floor yesterday.

He said a lot of things, some of which I agree with some not (mostly agree).  But this was the line of the speech to me:

“Stop listening to the bombastic loudmouths on the radio and television and the internet.”

I award John McCain Quote Of The Day honors for saying that – and leaving us to decide who “the bombastic loudmouths” are, which means, in all likelihood, each of us will define them as the people we disagree with.

When NBA star Dave DeBusschere was traded from the Detroit Pistons to the New York Knicks, my brother in law – an avid Knick fan who despised DeBusschere in his pre-Knick days – mentioned that “It’s interesting how a dirty player becomes an aggressive player when he’s traded to your team”.

I suspect the same dynamic is in play for bombastic loudmouths.

Oh, one other thing, completely unrelated to John McCain’s Quote:  Dave DeBusschere, who also spent two years pitching for the Chicago White Sox, was one of 12 men who played in both the NBA and Major League Baseball.  And one of those 12 was Chuck Connors, who then left sports to become an actor – starring in the hit TV show “The Rifleman”.

Never waste an opportunity to supply useless trivia….
