Today\’s quote comes to us from Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA). Two days ago, while on (what\’s left of) Larry King\’s show, “PoliticKing”, Ms Sanchez informed us that…
“…we know that there is a small group, and wedon\’t know how big that is – it can be anywhere between 5 and 20%, from thepeople that I speak to – that Islam is their religion and who have a desire fora caliphate and to institute that in anyway possible, and in particular goafter what they consider Western norms – our way of life.
“They are not contentenough to have their way of looking at the world, they want to put their way oneverybody in the world. And again, Idon\’t know how big that is, and depending on who you talk to, but they arecertainly – they are willing to go to extremes. They are willing to use andthey do use terrorism.”
Fascinating.
The lowest estimate I can find of how many Muslims there are in the United States is 0.9%. In numbers, that would put the Muslim population at almost 2.9 million – again keeping in mind this is the lowest estimate I can find (one estimate puts the Muslim population as high as 8 million).
Loretta Sanchez, therefore, is telling us that, at minimum, 143,000 to 574,000 U.S. muslims support turning the country into a caliphate, and are just fine with using terrorism to do so.
Is this supposed to reassure us?
FYI: possibly realizing the implications of her words (not a bad thing for a congressperson, wouldn\’t you think), Rep. Sanchez put out this statement:
“Istrongly support the Muslim community in America and believe that theoverwhelming majority of Muslims do not support terrorism or ISIS. We mustenlist the voices of the Muslim community in our fight against ISIS instead ofalienating them through fear-mongering and discrimination.”
Uh….we shouldn\’t be fearful of 143,000 to 574,000 willing terrorists?
I award Loretta Sanchez Quote Of The Day honors because she reminds us that being elected to the House of Representatives does not at all have to coincide with intelligent thought or commentary.
