THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Ken Berwitz

Today\’s quote comes to us from Ben Carson, a Republican presidential candidate whose early life has received more media scrutiny in the past two weeks than those same media have scrutinized Barack Obama since he was a candidate eight years ago, and through his entire presidency

This is what Mr. Carson tweeted after politico.com – gleefully joined by countless other media venues – attacked him as a liar for saying he was offered a full scholarship to West Point, then clumsily backtracked when Carson fought back and reminded politico of the circumstances and how it was said:

“We the People have made 10,000 donations each day this week, raising $3.5M this week alone. Thank you biased media”.

I do not know whether Ben Carson received 10,000 donations each day, totaling $3.5 million dollars.  But if he did, there seems to be no doubt that a ton of that money was in reaction to this hit job…

…which, of course, means that media, made to look bad by their own rush to judgment against a candidate they do not like or understand, have to double down (here\’s an example for you).

I award Ben Carson Quote Of The Day honors for putting the wood to people who, it seems more and more evident, will never give him a fair shake.

I wonder how many of them look at Mr. Carson and think:  “The nerve of that man:  rising from a broken home and poverty in Detroit to become a world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon!  Who does he think he is, anyway?  How dare him disturb our image of Black people, especially Black men.  Why….people like Ben Carson might (gasp!!) force us to write about Black people as if….they have personal capabilities and can improve and succeed based on those personal capabilities.  We\’d actually have to see them as (double-gasp!!!!!) INDIVIDUALS instead of stereotyping who they are, what they are, what they can/can\’t do……..what a nightmare.”
