Today’s quote – and it is a knee-slappingly funny one in a grim sort of a way – come to us from New York Times “reporter” Jeffery C. Mays.
From David Strom’s article for hotair.com, we see that Mays, in writing about Democrat mayoral candidate zohran mamdani, (mis)informed his readers this way (the bold print was Strom’s – and I would have done the same):
Former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, who is running as a third-party candidate and polling second, has sought to highlight Mr. Mamdani’s roots as a democratic socialist, suggesting that his positions are “dangerous” for New Yorkers.
Mr. Cuomo used both of his appearances on Fox News last week to criticize Mr. Mamdani’s left-leaning views, warning that they would be a “death knell for New York City.”
“New York City people are not socialists,” Mr. Cuomo said.
Neither, actually, is Mr. Mamdani: He is a democratic socialist, which means his beliefs are similar to those of socialists but not exactly the same.
See, when mamdani says things like .“The end goal is seizing the means of production” and “I’d prefer if we abolished private property” and “We will slowly buy up the housing on the private market and convert properties into communes”, that isn’t really socialism. Just ask Jeffery C. Mays.
But that’s not all. Just in case you doubted Mays’ personal attitude toward the mamdani agenda, Marc Tamasco’s article for Fox News informs us that Mays’ article also says this:
“The closest Mr. Mamdani gets to socialism is in his belief in treating people more equitably.”
This is a REPORTER? For the NEW YORK TIMES? What’s his next gig going to be? Editorial writer for Granma, Cuba’s official newspaper?
One last thing: does anyone still remember when the New York Times was a serious source of neutral journalism? If so, I admire your memory.
