THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today’s quote comes to us from New York State Senator Andrew Lanza.

Governor Kathy Hochul’s budget, just passed by the Democrat-dominated (41 Democrats, 22 Republicans) State Senate, permits the state to pay legal expenses for employees who are dealing with “discriminatory or retaliatory treatment” from the federal government (read that as the Trump administration).

In other words, State Attorney General Letitia James – who is being charged with civil fraud in an apparently open-and-shut case that has exactly nothing whatsoever to do with her conduct in office – may now be able to charge her legal fees to the state, thus New York taxpayers.

Here is Senator Lanza’s reaction to what you just read:

“This certainly is the height of hypocrisy…I can’t imagine a majority of New Yorkers not being outraged that their hard-earned dollars that go to the government are now being used or can be used to pay for private attorneys to defend public officials against charges of crimes that they committed having nothing to do with their elected position.”

I award State Senator Lanza Quote Of The Day honors for two things:  his perfectly justifiable personal outrage, and his naivete in believing that the voters of New York, who elected Governor Hochul and Attorney General James, would be that outraged.

Honestly?  If today were election day, and the voters of New York knew all about this, I would bet body parts that they’d re-elect them both, along with a majority Democrat Senate anyway.

You get what you vote for.  And, at least to this point in time, I don’t get any sense that New York’s voters are troubled enough by what is being pulled in their state to change things.
