Today’s quote comes to us from Senate Minority Leader (at least as of now) Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
It concerns his view of The “SAVE: (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility) Act, which was introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) on January 3 (before Donald Trump took office) with the purpose of amending the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, by requiring proof of citizenship in order to vote.
A law that insures only citizens of the country get to vote in elections. That seems pretty straightforward, doesn’t it?
Well, not if you’re a Democrat who, it seems, has a problem with just about any law that tries to insure only legal voters get to cast ballots.
Sadly, there are a great many such Democrats in both houses of congress (why do you suppose…?) And one of them is Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Here is his “explanation” (I put this in quotations because it is so patently fraudulent) of why he instructed Democrats (not that most needed any instruction) to vote against allowing it to come to a floor vote.
“Republicans in congress are pushing the SAVE act, one of the must destructive, dangerous voter suppression bills in recent memory.
“It is very reminiscent of jim crow.
“That’s what Republicans want to do. They want to restore, not only restore jim crow in the south, they want to have jim crow spread from one end of this country to the other. It WILL NOT happen. It will not happen.
“Let me be clear. I will not let this noxious bill this SAVE act become law. Every Senate Democrat, every single one of us is united against it. They need 60 votes. The SAVE act is dead on arrival.
“I’d like to say it louder so my friends in The House, and in the right wing over here can hear: the SAVE act is dead on arrival.”
Got that? A law requiring proof of citizenship in order to vote – which virtually every democracy on earth requires – is a “jim crow” law. It will specifically prevent Black people from voting.
Why does this single out Black people? Is Chuck Schumer telling us Black people are less capable of providing proof of citizenship than other people?
You’re damn right that’s what he’s telling us. That is EXACTLY what he is telling us. Chuck Schumer is specifically telling us Black people are inferior beings, less capable of providing, say, a birth certificate or a driver’s license, than non-Blacks.
How do you suppose Black people feel about being told this? I know that if I were Black and any politician on either side of the aisle told me this, I would be enraged.
But Chuck Schumer and the Democrat Party seem to think it is no problem.
Their point seems clearly to be that “You can tell those Black ones they aren’t as capable as non-Blacks. You can tell them it’s no problem for White folks to show they are citizens of the United States, but is so big a problem for Black folks that they won’t be able to do it, so they won’t be able to vote.”
This, of course, is before we get to the real reasons Schumer and his pals don’t want the SAVE act passed, thus making it significantly easier for ineligible people to cast votes – which should disturb anyone who gives a damn about fair elections.
I award Chuck Schumer Quote Of The Day (dis)honors for pumping out this disgustingly racist vomit, with dishonorable mentions to the majority of our media for not immediately exposing it for the disgustingly racist vomit it so obviously is.
