Today’s quote – and this one definitely falls under the heading “biting the hand that feeds you” – comes to us from MSNBC show host (at least as of this moment) Rachel Maddow.
Ms. Maddow, it seems, is miffed that MSNBC has fired Joy Ann Reid from her late afternoon weekday show (which, it should be noted, has lost about a quarter of its entire viewership over recent months). And when a hard-leftist like Ms. Maddow (a rich one – she earns $25 million a year from MSNBC!!!) sees a Black person fired, there is just one reason for it.
Have you guessed what the reason is yet? On the one-in-a-million possibility you have not, here is her quote:
“In all of the jobs I have had in all of the years I have been alive there is no colleague for whom I have had more affection and more respect than Joy Reid. I love everything about her. I have so much more to learn from her. I do not want to lose her as a colleague here at MSNBC, and personally, I think it is a bad mistake to let her walk out the door.”
“I will tell you, it is also unnerving to see that, on a network where we’ve got two—count them, two—nonwhite hosts in primetime, both of our nonwhite hosts in primetime are losing their shows, as is Katie Phang on the weekend.”
Got it? Racism.
That’s fascinating – especially since Reid’s replacement team – Symone Sanders-Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez – consists of two Black people. But, hey, this is Rachel Maddow and that is her “what else would you expect?” reaction.
This cartoon, I think sums things up quite nicely.
I award Rachel Maddow Quote Of The Day honors for staying entirely in character – and showing a remarkable degree of bravery given that, it seems self-evident, a comment like that just might put her own job in jeopardy.
Now let’s see if MSNBC will tolerate her gutsy “racist” bite on the hand that feeds her those $25 million per annum.
It’s not like, if they drop her, Fox News Channel is waiting in the wings…
