Today’s quote comes to us from Joe Biden’s Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre – who Biden trots out every day to lie for him (which she does not do very well).
Here is the latest example: Ms. Jean-Pierre’s assurance that the country is on board with Biden’s pardon of his son, hunter:
“And I would actually add — and I think it’s important to note here, as you’re asking me these questions — important questions to ask — that there was a poll — a [YouGov] poll that came out, that some of you all reported on it. And it said 64 percent of the American people agree with the pardon — 64 percent of the American people. So, we get a sense of where the American people are on this. Obviously, it’s one poll, but it gives you a little bit of insight. Sixty-four percent is nothing to sneeze at,”
In one sense, Ms. Jean-Pierre is correct. A 64% approval rating for any action a president takes is very impressive.
Except for one tiny little detail. The pardon did not get a 64% approval rating, or anywhere near it. From Elias Atienza’s article at msn.com:
This is false. The YouGov poll referenced showed that 17% of Americans “strongly approve” of the pardon, with another 17% of Americans “somewhat approve” of the president’s action, meaning that 34% of Americans approved, not 64%.
It also showed that 50% of Americans “strongly disapprove” or “somewhat disapprove” of the pardon. 15% of Americans were unsure of their position.
Translation: the claim that 64% of the public approves of this pardon is a blatant lie. In fact, 50% of the 84% who have an opinion of this pardon (that’s 60% of the people who have an opinion) DISapprove of it.
The article goes on to tell us, when challenged on this, an unnamed White House spokesperson said that she misspoke; she meant to say it was only Democrats. (If you believe that you probably believe hunter was qualified to sit on the Board of Directors at Burisma too).
Oh, and in case you think that one poll is an anomaly of some kind, the article tells us that another poll on the pardon shows the public disapproving of it by 52% – 29%. Ironically, that works out to 64% disapproval; the same percentage Jean-Pierre claimed for approval.
I award Karine Jean-Pierre Quote of The Day “honors” for showing us that, even after years of being ridiculed for the BS she spouts on behalf of her boss, she is perfectly willing to go right on spouting more of it every day.
