Today’s quote comes to us from Herbie Ziskend, the White House Principal Deputy Communications Director, Herbie Ziskend. It was made via a statement today, after Donald Trump referred to Josh Shapiro last night as a
“highly overrated Jewish Governor…”
Ziskend’s comment, an apparent reaction to what Trump said (though he didn’t specifically characterize it as such), was:
‘It is anti-Semitic, dangerous, and hurtful to attack a fellow American by calling out their Jewish faith in a derogatory way, or perpetuating the centuries-old smear of “dual loyalty.
“President Biden and Vice President Harris believe we must come together as Americans to condemn and combat anti-Semitism – and hate and bigotry of all kind.”
Let me start by pointing out that I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Ziskend’s statement. There is no place in this country – or the world – for hatred by race, religion or national origin.
But, assuming this was not coincidental timing/it was intended as a reaction to the above Trump comment, it should be noted that there is a reason I put three dots after that comment; because it was only the beginning of what Trump said.
Here is his entire statement:
‘The highly overrated Jewish Governor of the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, made a really bad and poorly delivered speech talking about freedom and fighting for Comrade Kamala Harris for President, yet she hates Israel and will do nothing but make its journey through the complexities of survival as difficult as possible, hoping in the end that it will fail. Judge only by her actions!
“Yet Shapiro, for strictly political reasons, refused to acknowledge that I am the best friend that Israel, and the Jewish people, ever had. I have done more for Israel than any President, and frankly, I have done more for Israel than any person, and it’s not even close. Shapiro has done nothing for Israel, and never will. Comrade Kamala Harris, the Radical Left Marxist who stole the nomination from Crooked Joe, will do even less. Israel is in BIG trouble!”
I don’t know how to say this any plainer: Trump’s statement is overblown, 1,000,000% over the top and – let’s be honest here – idiotic in its self-promotion (“I am the best friend that Israel, and the Jewish people, ever had. I have done more for Israel than any President, and frankly, I have done more for Israel than any person, and it’s not even close”???? Can the uber-egomaniacal Trump even come close to actualy believing this????)
But is it anti-Semitic? No it is not.
In context, Trump’s reason for citing Shapiro’s being Jewish is to point out the contradictory nature of a Jewish politician supporting a candidate who doesn’t have much sympathy for Israel (which I consider obviously true of Harris) over one who strongly supports Israel (which Trump certainly does).
I therefore award Herbie Ziskend – who I am virtually certain is, himself, Jewish – Quote Of The Day “honors” for overlooking the above facts to put an unfair political spin on what Trump said…
…and Quote Of The Day dishonors to Donald Trump for doing what he does not know how to avoid doing: putting his beyond-ludicrous self-image and self-promotion over all other considerations.
To say that Trump is his own worst enemy is to grossly overstate.
