Today’s quote comes to us from far-left Rep. pramila jayapal (D-WA), who chairs the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
It seems that jayapal is upset over House passage of the Antisemitism Awareness Act. And here, in her own words, is why:
“…unfortunately, I think Republicans are trying to weaponize antisemitism. They want to bring bills to the floor that actually divide Democrats, and what we really need to do, if we want to tackle antisemitism, which I believe every Democrat does want to do and many Republicans, then we would do a — we would bring a bipartisan bill and we would have a whole of government approach that involves educating people about what antisemitism is and what it isn’t and making sure that we are all speaking with one voice. I think it’s incredibly hurtful to the cause of eliminating antisemitism for Republicans to weaponize it and to be hypocrites about bringing forward something that is for pure political gain, not about fighting antisemitism. So, that’s why I think they brought this bill, because they knew that it would not get full Democratic support, because it doesn’t get full support from the Jewish community. It doesn’t get full support from people who have looked at this issue and said we have to be very careful about how we define this, and especially, by the way, this is being targeted and tied to educational funds that go to colleges. So, it has incredibly important ramifications.”
Let’s try to go through this mess in order:
-Republicans are trying to weaponize antisemitism? By pushing a bill that condemns it???
-Putting up a bill (you can read it by clicking here) that condemns anti-semitism is divisive? It pits Republicans against Democrats? Republicans should remind voters of this statement, the actual vote (70 Democrats voted against the bill vs 21 Republicans), and use it as a campaign point straight through to election day.
-Every Democrat wants to tackle anti-semitism? That would be laughable if it weren’t so sick. ilhan omar? rashida tlaib? Their pals on “the squad” (including you, pramila)? These are people committed to fighting anti-semitism? In what world? That’s like claiming the klan is committed to fighting racial bigotry.
-We have to be careful about how we define antisemitism? Why? Because the bill says we should use the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition?
Really? Well here is that definition:
“Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”
Tell us, pramila, which part you object to?
I could go on, but what’s the point? If you can’t see the problem by now, nothing more I can show will wake you up.
I award pramila jayapal Quote Of The Day (dis)honors for demonstrating so clearly what a segment – a petty large segment – of the Democrat Party thinks about anti-Semitism.
Will it wake up some of the partisans who still are conning themselves (or being conned) into thinking this isn’t a major problem within the Democrat Party?
Maybe they’ll wake up before election day and maybe they won’t. We’ll get our answer in November.
