Today’s quote comes to us from former, and possibly future, president Donald Trump.
Here, during Saturday’s campaign stop in Conway, South Carolina, is what Trump sarcastically barfed out about Nikki Haley’s husband not being on the campaign trail with her:
“What happened to her husband? Where is he? He’s gone. He knew. He knew.”
Presumably, Trump’s outburst was meant to convey that Mr. Haley, knowing his wife was dead meat in this campaign, ducked out because “he knew” it was a waste of time.
The problem? The actual reason Michael Haley is not with his wife is that he is Major Michael Haley, he is serving with the South Carolina National Guard as a staff officer with the 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, and is currently deployed in the Horn of Africa.
In other words, Nikki Haley’s husband is not there because he is in the military, serving our country overseas. And it is not the first time he has done so; 1n 2012, Haley served for six months in Afghanistan.
Given these facts, could Trump’s comment be more ridiculous? More tasteless? Tell me how.
I award Donald Trump Quote Of The Day (dis)honors for showing us again, as he does on a regular basis, that when given an opportunity to use his brain or his big, loud, ignorant mouth, he will invariably choose his big, loud, ignorant mouth.
Personally, I would vote for Nikki Haley 100 times out of 100 over Donald Trump. And though I despise the reasons he might be forced to leave this campaign (i.e. being convicted of invented/insanely trumped up criminal charges), I believe his exit would be a huge boon to his party and to the country.
