Today’s quote comes to us from Ruth Scott.
I’m assuming you don’t know who that is. So I’ll tell you that Ruth Scott is a fictional character from a movie, “Leave The World Behind”, co-produced by Barack and Michelle Obama (who, you can bet, had veto power over its contents), which was just released on Netflix.
During (I think), a cyber blackout and possible coup attempt in the US, Ruth imparts the following wit and wisdom to her father:
“If the world falls apart, trust should not be doled out easily to anyone. Especially White people.”
Do you find that appalling? If the answer is “yes” – and I’m betting it is – please note that this negativism toward Whites, at least according to the comments collected by Matthew Holloway at trendingpoliticsnews.com, is not restricted to one statement; it seems to be a recurring theme in the movie.
So how is “Leave The World Behind” being evaluated by critics and viewers?
Well, according to rottentomatoes.com, the 111 reviews it has received so far (the highest total I’ve ever seen for any movie there) give it a very high average rating of 85%.
But what about people – not reviewers, just regular people – who have viewed the film Do they give it similarly high ratings?
Nope. Not even close.
As I write this, viewers (over 2,500 of them) have given it an average rating of 37% – less than half of where the reviewers are. And, though I don’t know for sure, I can’t help thinking the movie’s negative racial angle is likely a major reason.
I award Ruth Scott (actually, actress Myha’la Herrold) Quote Of The Day honors for doing nothing other than adhering to her script – that is, saying exactly what Barack and Michelle Obama signed off on, thus wanted to be said, in this movie.
I’ll end with a question: what does this tell you about the Obamas – either what they have recently become, or what they were in the first place?
Your call on that one.
