Today’s quote comes to us from former, and possibly future, President Donald Trump.
During his (pre-taped, but aired on Tuesday) “town hall” interview with Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity, Hannity – referencing accusations that Trump regained the presidency he would go after people who, he felt, wronged him, asked him “Under no circumstances, you are promising America tonight, you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?”
Trump’s answer – to laughter and applause from the audience:
“Except for day one.
“I love this guy.IHannity). He says, ‘You’re not going to be a dictator, are you?’ I said: ‘No, no, no, other than day one. We’re closing the border and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I’m not a dictator.’” “
That, folks, is Trump’s entire “dictator” commentary. A flippantly worded promise that he would sign a couple of executive orders on day one. The end.
But, today, our wonderful “neutral” news media are overflowing with “reports” that Trump says, if elected, he will be a dictator.
I award Quote Of The Day honors to Donald Trump for driving the Trump-hating media off the rails (not that he doesn’t do so almost daily, but this time is particularly impressive)…
…and Quote Of The Day Dishonors to the media which, though certainly knowing better given the context of Trump’s comment, are pretending his “dictator” reference was serious.
But, then again, why should we be surprised? They’ve been lying for over 6 years that his “fine people on both sides” comment about Charlottesville, VA complimented nazis (100% untrue) and that he told people to drink or inject bleach to fight COVID (100% untrue). So why not accuse him of promising to be a dictator too?
