Today\’s quote comes to us from Joe Scarborough, the erstwhile Republican who now toils for MSNBC – and who seems to have an open-your-big-mouth chip somewhere in his cerebrum that occasionally kicks in (maybe it\’s the Starbucks blend he drinks) and makes him say things he should be embarrassed to say….but won\’t be, since, at MSNBC, they might get him a raise and bonus.
This morning, as tensions heighten while we wait for a grand jury decision on the Michael Brown shooting, Scarborough decided it would be a great time to remind audiences of the Trayvon Martin shooting, by saying this:
“Wedon\’t know the evidence. We just don\’t know the evidence. It\’s notlike Trayvon, where you had a guy chase a guy around a neighborhood and shoot himbecause he was Black.”
Uh, Joe…..
You forgot that George Zimmermann was not chasing anyone around a neighborhood, he was part of a neighborhood watch.
And you forgot that he called the movements of Trayvon Martin in to a police dispatcher before doing anything, thus announcing that he was watching Martin…the exact opposite of what someone intending to commit a racist murder would do.
And you forgot that eye witness testimony, and physical damage to Zimmermann, indicated that Trayvon Martin attacked him and was on top of him when the gun went off.
And you forgot that, based on the evidence, a racially mixed jury found Zimmermann innocent.
Or maybe you didn\’t forget any of this. Maybe that open-your-big-mouth chip kicked in and convinced you to make a comment, however untrue, which was so inflammatory that it could do nothing but make things worse in Ferguson, Saint Louis, and anywhere else where “the wrong grand jury conclusion” would send people out into the streets.
I award Joe Scarborough Quote Of The Day honors for showing us a combination of such poor personal judgment and so false a narrative of the Trayvon Martin incident, that……the MSNBC crowd must be dancing in the streets.
Way to go, Joe. Now: can I convince you to please consider decaf every now and again?
