Today\’s quote – and it stands as an object lesson for Democrats who are serious about learning from yesterday\’s massacre – comes to us from Condoleezza Rice. Speaking on Fox and Friends this morning, she had this to say about the kinds of racial appeals Democrats used during the campaign.
Said Ms. Rice:
“The idea that you would play such a card and try fearmongering among minorities just because you disagree with Republicans, that they are somehow all racists, I find it appalling. I find it insulting.
“We are not race blind. Of course we still have racial tensions in this country. But the United States of America has made enormous progress in race relations and it is still the best place on Earth to be a minority.”
FYI: Condoleezza Rice grew up in then-segregated Birmingham Alabama, and through grit, determination, plus about 1,000 tons of intelligence and talent, rose to become a pianist, an educator, a foreign policy expert, a member of the National Security Council, the Provost of Stanford University, and eventually our Secretary of State and President Bush\’s Chief Security Advisor.
I\’d like to think she knows something about something.
And I\’d also like to think, or at least hope, that Democrats – who used some of the vilest, most disgraceful images they could find to pretend that Republicans as a group were somehow equivalent to the days of Jim Crow, lynching and, more recently, the killing of young Black males like Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, now know something about how badly this tactic can backfire.
Condoleezza Rice wins Quote Of The Day honors, for bluntly, honestly stating an opinion that is loaded with reality rather than divisive, race-baiting garbage. I thank her for it.
