Today’s quote comes to us from President Barack Obama — through David Simas, one of his aides.
Here is what Simas was sent out to say about the Israeli election, which incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his party won handily despite Mr. Obama’s herculean efforts to defeat him:
“We want to congratulate the Israeli people for the democratic process for the election that they just engaged in with all the parties that engaged in that election. As you know now, the hard work of coalition building begins. Sometimes that takes a couple of weeks. And we’re going to give space to the formation of that coalition government and we’re not going to weigh in one way or another except to say that the United States and Israel have a historic and close relationship and that will continue going forward”
Do you see a word of congratulations to Mr. Netanyahu there?
FYI: Obama congratulated Iran’s President Rouhani when he won. And he congratulated Vladimir Putin when he won.
So a terrorist state (wait: Obama just took Iran off the “terrorist” list. So help me this is not a joke, I’ll be blogging about it shortly), and a KGB operative in the process of trying to reassemble the USSR, get his congratulations. But not the head of state of one of our very staunchest allies.
How small.
How petty.
How childish.
How disgraceful.
How….Obama.
Oh, and in case you wonder how Benjamin Netanyahu reacted when the situation was reversed and President Obama had won his second term as President…we have this from an article at reuters.com:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday for winning a second term and said the strategic alliance between their two countries was “stronger than ever”.
Notice a bit of a difference. Like, for example, the difference between a grownup and a petulant child?
I award President Obama Quote Of The Day honors for proving to us that some things never change…as well as proving to us why, as we also saw in the midterm elections, the media may love to fawn over him, but he has – very justifiably – become toxic to voters, whether in the USA or Israel.
