Months ago, I juxtaposed a picture of Pope Francis with one of Woody Allen. And, as is pretty obvious below, from a certain angle the two look very much alike:
At the time I originally posted pictures of the two I considered it a funny coincidence.
But suddenly I\’m not laughing.
Excerpted from Dave Urbanski\’s article for the Associated Press:
PopeFrancis delivered a powerful boost of support to the Palestiniansduring a Holy Land pilgrimage Sunday, repeatedly backing theirstatehood aspirations, praying solemnly at Israel\’s controversialseparation barrier and calling the stalemate in peace efforts”unacceptable.”
Palestinianofficials hailed Francis\’ decision to refer to the “State ofPalestine.” In its official program, the Vatican referred toPresident Mahmoud Abbas as the president of the “state ofPalestine,” and his Bethlehem office as the “presidentialpalace.” He pointedly called Abbas a “man of peace.”
I respect the Pope and respect what I think he is trying to accomplish. But this is ludicrous to the point of being a sick joke.
For the record:
-Israel\’s “separation barrier” is only controversial for people who like dead Jews. The sole reason for its existence is to prevent Palestinian Arab suicide bombers from coming into Israel and blowing up innocent civilians in buses restaurants and other public places – which was occurring on a regular basis before it was put up.
-There is no “State of Palestine”, because no borders have been negotiated. And Palestinian Arabs – not Israel, Pope Francis, but Palestinian Arabs – have rejected every offer of a settlement Israel has ever made.
-mahmoud abbas is not “President” of anything. He is a dictator. abbas was President from the time he was elected in 2005 to the time his term ended in 2009. abbas stopped being President and started being a dictator when he declined to allow the elections that were to be held at that time.
-And this “man of peace” not only names sporting events and plazas after “successful” suicide bombers – you know, the ones that “controversial” separation barrier keeps out – but has entered into a unity agreement with hamas, the terrorist group whose charter explicitly calls for the obliteration of Israel, the killing of all Jews everywhere – not just Israel – and rejects all peace negotiations on the grounds that every square inch of Israel is Islamic land.
I do not know what possessed Pope Francis to allow himself to be duped this completely. Maybe it is because, as a man of faith, he truly believes that if he says all the right words, Israel and Palestinian Arabs will magically come to some kind of mutually acceptable agreement.
But, speaking personally, I don\’t think that, under the current conditions, it stands a chance of happening…however, I am 100% sure that appeasing a terrorists is not going to be what turns things around.
And that is no laughing matter at all.
