The latest NBC/Wall St. Journal poll has just been released. And there is good news for Democrats.
Unfortunately for them, however, the good news is that, while horrible, it is a tiny bit less cataclysmic than the CNN/ORC poll which was released yesterday.
A few key findings:
-President Obama\’s job ratings – 40% approve, 54% disapprove, same as last month – remain the lowest in this poll\’s history;
-President Obama\’s ratings on handling foreign policy, which hit a new low of 36% approve, 60% disapprove last month, have now dropped to a godawful 32% approve, 62% disapprove;
-When asked which party should control congress, 45% say Republican and 43% Democrat – Republicans\’ best showing in over three years.
-Regarding national security, 47% feel we are less safe now than we were before 9/11, compared to 26% saying we are more safe (the rest say there is no differenc). This is a dramatic difference from one year ago, when it was 28% less safe, 39% more safe.
-And on amnesty for legal aliens – an initiative virtually owned by Democrats – 53% favor a pathway to citizenship versus 45% in opposition. While still majority-positive, this is a significant drop from the 64% favor/35% oppose the last time this question was asked (April, 2013).
Are Democrats in trouble this year? Yes, they are in trouble. Enormous trouble.
Is there time for them to pull out of this mess? Yes there is.
