THE MINNESOTA STATEHOUSE BOYCOTT

Did you know that Minnesota’s House Democrats are boycotting all procedures they were elected to participate in and refusing to go to work?

I’ll bet almost no one outside of Minnesota is aware of this, or the reasons why.  Mainstream media are very happy to bury stories like this…when the culpable party is Democrat rather than Republican.  But it is nonetheless happening.

Why? Get ready for a story that the Grimm Brothers would have had trouble making up.

It seems that in last November’s election the voters elected 67 Democrats and 67 Republicans to Minnesota’s House of Representatives.  Given that the Governor – Minnesota’s illustrious Tim Walz – is a Democrat, that gave control of the house to Democrats.

But there was a problem.  One of the elected Democrats, Curtis Johnson, did not live in the district he was elected to represent – which is required by law.  The election was therefore overturned and, until a special election was held, gave Republicans a 67-66 majority, thus control of the house.

Democrats did not like this.  They demanded that no state business should be conducted until the seat was refilled by special election (which, in this district, is a guaranteed Democrat win).  Republicans pointed out that they had a legal majority, the reason they had it was that a Democrat cheated to “win”, and that business should be conducted as usual.

But to conduct business as usual, a quorum- that is, a majority – must be present – which, based on a decision by Minnesota’s all-Democrat-appointed Minnesota Supreme Court (that’s right, 7 out of 7) means a majority not of elected members (which, with 133 legally elected members, would be 67) but a majority of the entire 134 members (assuming no one was bounced for cheating).   That would be 68, not 67.  In other words, Republicans would need at least one Democrat to show up for there to be a quorum.

So how have Democrats “resolved” this issue?  They have gone on strike.

Every day, Republicans have shown up to do the business of the state of Minnesota.  And every day, Democrats – all of them – have boycotted it.  They have not shown up.  Not one member.  And they have resolved to continue boycotting the statehouse until the special election to replace the Democrat who cheated takes place.

In other words, if Democrats are not in control, they won’t show up.  Even though the reason they are not in control is the dishonesty of one of their own people.

So until the special election takes place – Governor Walz tried to make it January 28, but that supercharged-speedway election date was too much even for the all-Democrat Supreme Court, and now (I think) it is tentatively scheduled for March 5 – Democrats simply will avoid doing their jobs.  Rule or ruin.

That’s a great story for mainstream media to report, isn’t it?  So why, if you are not a Minnesotan (and maybe even if you are), do you know so little about it?

I only hope you don’t need me to tell you the answer.
