Last night a “man”, posing as a police officer, went to the homes of two Democrat state legislators. Presumably thinking it was an emergency of some kind the two doors were opened.
But it was not an emergency. The “man” first went to the home of State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife. He shot them both. They are seriously injured but may survive. He then went to the home of Democrat House Speaker Melissa Horton and shot her and her husband, killing them both.
This is beyond ugly. I don’t care what your politics are, I hope your heart goes out to these two families.
But who did it?
The initial assumption for many, I suspect, is that it must be some right wing lunatic. After all, they’re the violent ones and they have all the guns, right? Uh….right?
Well, in actuality, it is now being reported that the shooter – and from a variety of news reports it seems very clear they are sure about this – is almost certainly someone named vance luther boelter …
…who is a former political appointee of both Democrat former Governor Mark Dayton and Democrat current Governor Tim Walz. Dayton appointed him to the Workforce Development Council and Walz appointed him to the Workforce Development Board.
Maybe Dayton and Walz both decided to a appoint a right wing and/or Republican to these positions. But I wouldn’t bet on it. Until otherwise advised, I expect he is a Democrat – and one with a murderous grudge of some kind.
But regardless of who the assassin is or what his politics are, I hope he is quickly caught and brought to the harshest justice available in Minnesota. Let’s leave it at that, because that is where it should be left.
