If there is news about the IRS scandal – which I call the Lie-IRS scandal because of all the lying which has been done about it – you are unlikely to read or see it in most mainstream media. So let me give you the two major updates
Update 1: lois “liar” lerner\’s contempt citation
lois “liar” lerner has been cited for contempt by the House of Representatives. The vote, 231 to 187, was virtually all along party lines with Republicans voting to cite lerner and Democrats voting not to. There were only 6 Democrat defections…all of them by house members facing competitive races this November.
In a more perfect world, the fact that lerner – who has been caught in lie after lie – testified to the House Oversight and Reform Committee that she was innocent (thus waiving her fifth amendment privilege against self-incrimination) but then refused to answer the committee\’s questions, would generate a unanimous vote of contempt. In my opinion the fact that Democrats are ignoring what she did and voting, en masse, to give her a free pass, is contempt in and of itself: both for the law, and for the people, who deserve an accounting of the IRS\’s disgraceful activity.
The sad reality, however, is that the contempt citation results in lerner\’s investigation being handled by the Department of Just-Us – which has been politicized and racialized so completely by Attorney General eric holder that lerner probably has nothing to worry about anyway.
Update 2: More clear evidence that the IRS specifically targeted groups based on their political views
Newly released documents – which were desperately suppressed and have only become available due to legal action – show that the IRS lied when it said destroyed the membership lists it demanded of dozens of rightward groups – lists it should never have asked for in the first place. At least three of those lists were not destroyed. And now it turns out that the IRS targeted 10% of the donors on those lists for audits – literally 10 times as many as in the general population, where about 1% are targeted each year. There you are. The Lie-RS Scandal in all its glory. The scandal that mainstream media have so desperately tried to minimize or hide altogether….while doing nonstop reporting on far more important “stories” like whether New Jersey Governor Chris Christie had a hand in closing a couple of lanes on the George Washington Bridge.
Then they wonder why more and more people call media biased…while fewer and fewer trust them.
