THE LIE OF THE YEAR (YEAH, RIGHT)

PolitiFact is an internet venue that claims to neutrally/non-politically evaluate whether claims made – usually by politicians – are true, false or somewhere in between.

In reality, it is a hardline leftward Democrat-supporting venue that is about as neutral as a press release from Nancy Pelosi.

Its latest demonstration of so-called neutrality is its Lie Of The Year – i. e. what it deems the most egregious lie told.

My congratulations to Donald Trump, for winning (if you can call it that) Politifact’s 2024 Lie Of The Year “honors” (the 4th time he has been so “honored”).

Here is the “lie”, and PolitiFact’s explanation of why it wins:

The 2024 distinction goes to two people for one lie: President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance for their statements about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, eating locals’ pets.

This marks the fourth time we’ve given the award to Trump and the first time we’ve crowned Vance. Trump also figured prominently in promoting three other falsehoods that were named Lie of the Year winners — lies about the Jan. 6, 2021, attack, claims that downplayed and denied COVID-19, and the surge of fake news disguised as credible reports.

Let’s forget the fact that we do not know for certain this claim is a lie; there have been people (I’ve read the quotes) from Springfield claiming this has happened.  Let’s assume it is a 100% bald-faced falsehood.

Is THAT really the biggest lie of the year?

-How about the lie that Joe Biden was “sharp as a tack” and 100% compos mentis – which not only was obviously untrue to anyone who bothered to pay attention, but has now been admitted as a falsehood by numbers of people who work with him.

-How about the lie that our border is secure and the only reason for millions of illegals crossing it is that Republicans refused to vote for a “bipartisan” border bill earlier this year (can someone explain how a bill almost every Democrat votes for and almost every Republican votes against is “bipartisan?)

-How about the lie that Joe Biden was not going to pardon his son, hunter – which he stated, definitively, he would not do on the record…and then not only did, but did so in a way that clearly protects any scrutiny of how the money hunter accumulated over the years for doing exactly nothing was distributed to other members of the Biden family – Papa Joe very much included?

-How about the ongoing lies that Joe Biden was “creating” tons of jobs – that were given maximum publicity when the initial data were released and then, quietly, revised dramatically downward (by 818,000!!!) months afterward?

Nope.  None of those lies is as monumental as Donald Trump and J.D. Vance claiming that Haitians were eating dogs and cats in Springfield (which a) has not been proven false and b) is not at all uncommon in Haiti, by the way).

Yep, PolitiFact sure is a neutral site.  No bias there.  And Frosty The Snowman really did come to life and run around with the kids (it must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found).

Oh well, we always have that other “neutral” venue, Snopes.  Everyone knows they’re 100% nonparti……er, wait a minute.  Never mind.
