As any regular reader of this blog knows, I have written many times about the ugly, sordid history of al sharpton – a career racist, anti-Semite, Black supremacist, serial deadbeat fraud.
Despite this background, which would have disqualified just about anyone else from a position of prominence several times over, sharpton is also a TV show host on MSNBC and, more importantly, a kingmaker in the Democrat Party…which should (but apparently does not) shame and disgrace them both.
The reason I bring this up again today is that the Washington Examiner has published an editorial about sharpton and his latest scandal which – to its credit (and my surprise) was a page 1 article in Tuesday\’s New York Times: that sharpton owes something like $4.5 million dollars in back taxes.
I urge you to read the entire editorial – understanding that it is in no way comprehensive; that there is much, much more than what it enumerates.
Here is how it begins:
The Rev.Al Sharpton is perhaps best known these days for his MSNBC show. Thisprovides viewers with a daily diet of its host misreading histeleprompter andegregiously overusing the phrase, “I mean, what is he talkingabout?”
But thereis much more to Sharpton than his left-leaning political worldviewand unimpressive TV skills. He rose to national prominence in the1980s when he falsely accused white law enforcement officials ofraping a teenage African-American girl. After that, he moved on toincite anti-Semitic violence in Brooklyn andHarlem. This was his preparation for a later bid for the Democraticnomination for president. And now he is, as Politico described him,”Obama\’s go-to man on race.”
The editorial goes on to discuss part (by no means all) of sharpton\’s record as a deadbeat who does not pay his debts, and his enormous hypocrisy in attacking others for not paying their fair share of taxes when he doesn\’t appear to pay any at all.
But this is just one editorial. There is not enough room to add in the specifics of so many other sharpton lowlights – such as how he spurred on the deadly Crown Heights riots, the Freddy\’s Fashion Mart killings, and, currently, the Michael Brown conflagration.
The Examiner\’s editorial, sarcastically, calls him “Leona Sharpton” – a reference to the obnoxious, self-indulged “Queen of Mean”, leona helmsley, who famously was accused of saying “We don\’t pay taxes. Only the little people pay taxes”.
But, in this regard, it is wrong. helmsley had nothing on sharpton – he left her at the starting gate. And, unlike helmsley, whose tax evasion got her over a year and a half in prison, sharpton has never been called to account for anything.
Maybe it\’s about time he was. And maybe the New York Times article and the Washington Examinere editorial will finally start the ball rolling.
