It is being reported that, having been rebuffed in our attempt to make some kind of a “deal” with the murderous regime of Iran, we are now bombing Kharg Island. Though not reported (that I have seen), it is possible that we will station military personnel there.
The importance of Kharg Island to Iran’s economy – what there is of it after the murderous mullahs running things there ran it into the ground – cannot be overstated. Something like 90% of the country’s oil exports go through Kharg Island. If we were dealing with rational people, our ability to take it out, and the fact that we are bombing it right now, might cause a quick surrender/submission.
But we are not dealing with rational people, are we?
Let’s see where this goes. Let’s see whether it is only the partial or complete destruction of Iran’s oil-exporting resources, or whether we put boots on the ground and take it over altogether; a very dangerous undertaking, as you can see by reading Bilal y. Saab’s article at warontherocks.com.
Given President Trump’s 8PM-tonight deadline, and the fact that, as of now, he seems determined to make good on that deadline, it won’t take long to find out.
