THE IRRELEVANCE OF THE NAACP

When was the last time the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) did something worthwhile?

When was the last time the NAACP did anything but act as lapdogs for the al sharpton/jesse jackson wing of the Democrat Party?

A matter of disclosure here:  I was at one time a member of the NAACP.  I belonged to the organization because I believed in its stated ideals, and remained a member until it became so partisan, and so eager to find racism in anything and everything whether it was there or not, that I couldn\’t do it anymore.

It has been a good many years since those days, but, unfortunately, the NAACP seems hell-bent on showing me, over and over again, that I was right to have left.

The latest reason is its reaction to the victories of Tim Scott, Mia Love and Will Hurd in Tuesday\’s election.

In case you are unaware:

-Rep. Tim Scott (R-NC) was appointed to the U. S. Senate when Jim DeMint retired.  On Tuesday he was elected to a full term in a landslide. He is the first Black U. S. Senator in the south since reconstruction.

-Mia Love, Haitian-born Mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah, was elected to congress – the first Black Republican woman in history;

-Will Hurd, after a long, honorable career in the CIA and the military, won an upset victory in Texas\’s 23rd congressional district.

And the NAACP, which – if it were even remotely nonpartisan or concerned primarily with the Advancement of Colored People – would be celebrating these victories.

Instead, it has either ignored or condemned them.

Why?  Because the Black winners are Republicans, who espouse largely conservative views, that\’s why.

In the case of Tim Scott in particular,  the organization rates him “F” – because he believes in individual accomplishment rather than government dependency.  In other words, because he does not toe the line on the Democrat Party\’s program of more and more programs and entitlements, which, though well-meaning and positive if provided on a limited basis, has had such a godawful effect Black citizens for so many years.

What does this say about the NAACP, other than that it used to mean something, but now is the punch line to a bad joke?

In the (tweeted) words of Raffi Williams, the Republican Deputy Press Secretary….

“Ifthe [NAACP] was a truly bipartisan org they would support allblacks not just dem Blacks.  I wish an orglike the [NAACP] would support black ppl of ideologies. Unfortunatelythey are proving how out of date they are…should support all black ppl who are working to affectpositive change in their communities. But they don\’t”.

Yep.  Much though I wish Mr. Williams were wrong, every word rings true.
