Well, it has happened.
Sony has released “The Interview” – which appears to be a no-better-than-OK B movie (I don\’t mean that insultingly, I mean it factually: look at the reviews) – in a few hundred movie theaters and on line.
Not surprisingly, there was a big rush to see it. Probably more because doing so could “prove” the bravery, the courage, the commitment of moviegoers than because of the movie itself.
My guess is that, shortly after the initial rush of “I saw it already, look at me, look at me” folks, interest will relatively quickly fade.
Will Sony be hacked further because of the release? Wouldn\’t surprise me a bit.
Will someone – either involved with the threats or a copycat – attempt violence against a theater, or a Sony executive, or one of the actors? Sad to say that is not at all out of the question.
I\’m glad Sony released “The Interview”, and terribly sorry it generates this kind of risk.
And I admit I have something of a soft spot for star Seth Rogen, because he was so strong a supporter when I was blogging about Hobby Lobby not carrying anything Jewish in their stores (he never contacted me personally, but tweeted very emphatic support with what I had to say).
AS for what will happen in the future? Let\’s keep our fingers crossed and hope the answer is nothing at all.
