Those are the first two lines of the signature song from that great play, Man Of La Mancha, which opened on Broadway in 1965.
Well, now there is a 2024 version. But it is not musical, it is prosaic. And instead of being sung by the great Richard Kiley, it is being voiced by the, as it turns out, not so great Mayor Eric Adams.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is seeking financial support from the city’s wealthiest residents in order to address the financial strain caused by the ongoing migrant crisis.
The city has announced significant budget cuts, including reducing police numbers and slashing budgets in education and sanitation.
“This is a moment where it’s an all hands on deck moment,” Adams said.
“The way it goes, New York goes, America goes, but I’m going to need you more than ever to support many of these organizations like PAL, Robin Hood Foundation, and others,” he added.
“A moment where our philanthropic interests must align with some of the gaps and services that we are seeing today.”
With over 130,000 migrants arriving in the city since last year, Mayor Adams warns that the crisis could “destroy” the city.
Hmmmmmm.
Isn’t New York City a “sanctuary city”? Wasn’t New York City’s position that allowing untold numbers of illegals into the country was a great idea….until proportional numbers of those illegals started showing up in New York City?
And aren’t the people Mayor Adams is begging to voluntarily pay additional money, precisely the same people who have been fleeing New York because of its high prices and high taxes? The ones escaping to places like (gasp!!!) Florida?
Getting more money – on a voluntary basis – from the same people who are leaving because of how much New York City already costs them? If you want an impossible dream, try that on for size.
Hey, here’s a thought. How about Mayor Adams reversing the “sanctuary city” policy – no big problem, since that status has no legal basis whatsoever/flies in the face of federal law – and demands that other Democrats join him in petitioning the Biden administration to for once and for all close the southern border to illegals?
Uh…….never mind. Democrats in the era of Biden admitting they were wrong? That’s another impossible dream, isn’t it.
