If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and is constantly seen in the presence of ducks, it\’s a pretty good bet that it\’s a duck.
If jane fonda, who went on a joyous, supportive tour of North Vietnam while American troops were fighting and dying there, and was married to left wing radical Tom Hayden, thinks that a self-serving, loaded-with-BS disclaimer now provides some kind of absolution for her actions at that time, she\’s got another think coming.
Excerpted from Paige Jones\’ article in the Frederick (MD) News-Post:
JaneFonda said she hoped for an open dialogue with veterans after about50 former military members and supporters protested the actress\’sappearance Friday evening at the Weinberg Center for the Arts.
“Wheneverpossible I try to sit down with vets and talk with them, because Iunderstand and it makes me sad,” Fonda told a relatively fulltheater, responding to a submitted question. “It hurts me and itwill to my grave that I made a huge, huge mistake that made a lot ofpeople think I was against the soldiers.”
In1972 Fonda visited Hanoi, North Vietnam, where she criticized attackson the dike system along the Red River. A U.S. investigation laterrevealed the publicity of these bombings as propaganda. Fonda\’sstatements and a photograph of her sitting on a North Vietnameseanti-aircraft battery outraged many Americans and veterans, leadingmany to call her “Hanoi Jane” and a “traitor.”
It makes her sad that there are people who remember what she did? It was all a big mistake? It hurts her?
Here\’s the news, Hanoi Jane: the only reason there were just 50 protesters is that you are now viewed as an irrelevant old whining liar. But when that war was in progress you were everything they said you were, and – whatever you, or I or anyone else thought about what we were doing there – the enormous propaganda value you provided to ho chi minh & Co. extended that war and cost the lives of U.S. soldiers.
Take that to your grave.
